Now that you are ready to ship, It is strongly recommended that our clients take out insurance for their shipments. Furthermore, the implications of not having insurance cover in place must be understood. Having cargo insured is the client’s responsibility. If a claim arises without insurance, the client must be aware that under our BIFA trading terms, we operate under a limited liability and the shipping line utilised will not be liable for any loss of goods or damage to cargo. Unfortunately, there have been extreme instances in the recent years where a vessel has sunk due to fire on board, and an instance where cargo was fire damaged whilst on quay awaiting a vessel. These are two extreme cases faced, and are not regular occurrences, however there have been various occasions where cargo has been damaged during loading/unloading operations and also whilst in transit to the destination. Clients without insurance policies in place will be left owing freight costs along with the costs from the loss of cargo.
